ePrep is a non-profit French association founded in 2001. Its mission is to promote and coordinate actions, in France and abroad, for the development of " Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles " (CPGE - a first higher education cycle preparing students for the competitive entrance exams to the French " Grandes Ecoles ") through the use of information and communication technology (ICT).

ePrep develops its activity in four directions: organization of an international workshop every two years and of thematic workshops every year, studies and researches (ePrep is a partner of the PALETTE IST project), watch activities (newsletter), and management of the ePrep Web site.

ePrep conducts its actions on a project-per-project basis: for each project, a project team is mobilized with the involvement of partners (like Conférence des grandes écoles, CNED, INRIA…).

The ePrep community gathers CPGE teachers, representants from "Grandes écoles", universities, research institutes, training organisations, etc., building three layers : "the core" (the projects teams, 20 to 30 members), "around the core" (regular workshop attendees, 150 to 200 members) and "beyond" (subscribers to the ePrep mailing list, over 1000 members).

The ePrep community of practice (CoP), arisen from this existing ePrep community, has been officially launched in Sousse (Tunisia), on the occasion of the first ePrep thematic workshop (October 30, 2006). The PALETTE project will support the first steps of this emerging CoP, analyse the needs of their members and propose them to use advanced PALETTE tools in order to more efficiently work together for the development of the various ePrep projects identified during the workshop in Sousse.

Origin of the community: The community was born in 2001 and has been developing over the years to become a true “community of interest” in 2006. It is now an emerging CoP.

Openness of the group, evolution of members: The ePrep community of interest has a total of around 1000 members, including 150-200 members frequently involved in ePrep activities, and 20-30 core members of the ePrep CoP.

Main intention: To promote and coordinate actions, in France and abroad, for the development of « Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles »  through the use of information and communication technology (ICT).
